I've discovered that after all is said and done and the bills paid, it is often less expensive to deal with these folks just because of the advice, service and installation advantages. One of our friends in MIlton, Jerry Ranger grew up in MIlton with his retired Navy Chief dad working there for Tops. I never got to meet Mr. Ranger, but I met a lot of his shipmates from the USS Houston (and the Bridge on the RIver Kwai). A lot of the surviving crew from the loss of the Houston could point to John Ranger for saving thier lives in one of the many battles the ship endured in its short "life at war". http://home.pon.net/shawnf/stor/jwranger/jwranger.htmBUZZ CREEKhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04866088379634990967noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6618306626954855633.post-17511451278640866312017-12-27T15:38:53.130-05:002017-12-27T15:38:53.130-05:00How about a couple more "No Right Turns"...How about a couple more "No Right Turns" as entering the town during High Traffic Hours. If you are from this area or new to it or even if you just appreciate the history of the Gulf Coastal transitions of generations - this novel will color in a lot of the humanity. It is a well told story that, as an historical novel should, ties in actual history with the hauntingly familiar main characters. They seem as if they formed from your very own ancestors in this area. And --- indeed they were. I found myself occasionally traversing the timeline of my own great grandparents and grandparents to bind my understanding of the events in the book to the folklore brought forward by family.

It helps to have read the first book in the "interwoven" series, "WAITING DEER", because some of the characters appear in each book and the timelines, overlap, and some of the "back-story" makes the current book even more enjoyable. BUT, it is not necessary.

Each book can stand completely on its own. It found the "triangulation" of geography between Auburn, DeFuniak Springs and Milton/Coon Hill, to add greatly to my mental image of the period infrastructure and transportation and family ties and industry. Get your mental coloring book book out and let this book (both books) paint a picture for YOU !

Thank YOU, Dr. Miller !BUZZ CREEKhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04866088379634990967noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6618306626954855633.post-58761184995406935162017-06-24T13:35:02.506-04:002017-06-24T13:35:02.506-04:00Great interview. His humor was infectuous. He had a twinkle in his eye. He knew how to have fun with people and bring out the best. His Army/Navy/Marine humor was special for someone with a uniform in their past. These men and women for that era are examples of our best selves. He was also one of the last people to have served in combat with NJ's Medal of Honor exemplar - John Basilone. Basilone earned a silver star with your grandfather (silver star as well) in their time at Guadlacanal. The "party" afterward always seemed strange to me. The widow was either bustling around fixing plates of food for people or drinking herself under the table. Now that I'm old enough to have a perspective, I can appreciate that and I understand it.Diane Laney Fitzpatrickhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06332345732271216536noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6618306626954855633.post-68214511757113317282010-09-03T17:55:08.270-04:002010-09-03T17:55:08.270-04:00http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPHEPVpHsnE&fea...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPHEPVpHsnE&feature=relatedAnonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6618306626954855633.post-37168254018100781642008-05-11T07:25:00.000-04:002008-05-11T07:25:00.000-04:00Fred Space recently finished a book called "R...Fred Space recently finished a book called "RALPH SPACE (The Legend) and TALES OF BEEMERVILLE".
